Bigger Smartphone Screens Means Higher App Engagement

New research from Localytics has found that bigger screens on smartphones lead to greater app engagement. People who use smartphones with screens five-inches or larger spend 23% more time using apps versus those who have smaller screens. The measurement included both frequency, average number of app launches per month, as well as length, average time spent in apps across sessions per month.

The researchers found that users spend about 66 minutes in each individual app per month if they have a screen that is at least five-inches. Those with a four-inch smartphone spend 52 minutes per month in each app. Localytics believes that the larger screens improve the mobile experience, in general. Interestingly, the iPhone SE currently lags behind similarly sized smartphones but researchers note that, due to its recent launch, it is too soon to tell if this trend will be sustained.
