Wawa's "Order Ahead" mobile app is critical to the beloved regional chain of convenience stores and gas stations' business. Designed, developed, and maintained by Mobiquity, the app allows customers to order ahead or in-store, as well as redeem rewards, and reflects the company's commitment to the digital transformation.
While Wawa was leveraging AWS for operating the app, it recognized additional opportunities to drive effciencies, save time, and cut costs leveraging the power of the cloud. To help Wawa capitalize on this potential, Mobiquity proposed migration to a fully auto scaled solution with an integrated continuous integration/continuous delivery pipeline process.
The solution includes the automated creation of complete environments to support multiple UAT test beds, as well as a blue-green deployment scenario, enabled using DNS swapping. A log aggregation process enables capture of all application and infrastructure logs across the dynamically changing set of compute resources.
In delivering the solution, we heavily incorporated AWS services to address infrastructure and platform needs. Among the many services leveraged, auto scaling is configured to use Amazon CloudWatch, and Amazon Route53 is enabled to route traffic for the blue-green deployment scenario. Combined, the IaaS and PaaS provide the scalablity and reliability required to meet demand. AWS services also provide ephemeral storage as well as built-in monitoring.
Our efforts are helping Wawa to more efficiently maintain its app and deliver the experience its customers expect. Operational deployment times have decreased from hours to minutes, and Wawa has achieved the efficiencies and cost savings it desired.
