Mobiquity Mentors Students in “Coded by: Kids” Competition | Mobiquity

On Friday, February 21, 2020, members of the greater Philadelphia Mobiquity office volunteered their time with high school students ages 13-18. We hosted “Intro to User Experience and Wireframing,” a mentoring session that students participated in as part of a greater initiative called Coded by: Kids. The goal of Coded by: Kids is to fight inequality through tech and innovation education and Mobiquity jumped at the chance to help further these goals.

Coded by: Kids has initiated a city-wide coding competition called Ctrl+Shift. The goal of Ctrl+Shift is to give students the opportunity to think boldly and build projects that change the way they interact with their communities. Students work on projects for a chance to win $5,000 during a live competition on May 2, 2020. Students must participate in at least two mentoring sessions to qualify for the competition.

Mobiquity’s session gave students guidance and a hands-on opportunity to develop their individual digital projects, helping the students apply concepts related to user experience, wireframing, developing personas, and refining ideas.

Here’s what our employees had to say about the experience:

“It was pleasing to see future innovators in action. Such a great opportunity to share our experiences with them to enable their bright futures!” -Hakan Karakas, Director of Engineering

“We were excited for the opportunity to meet and educate the students in the Ctrl+Shift contest. They were eager to improve their projects by learning about the User Experience process. Everyone is looking forward to volunteering with Coded by: Kids again soon!" -Andrew Capozzi, Senior Principal Experience Architect

“What a great event! I really appreciated the opportunity to discuss design thinking and user experience with the students. Getting to be a part of exposing them to this way of problem solving, which can be applied in a variety of areas, was special. It’s something I wish I had learned at their age.” -Will Gillespie, Analyst

Mobiquity would like to thank the following employees for volunteering, presenting, and encouraging the students: Erin Abler, Anna Budny, Andrew Capozzi, Virginia Earl, Pauline Gepilano, Will Gillespie, Hakan Karakas, Kaci Kwiatek, John Quillen, Matt Rose, Sujal Shah, Brad Smith and Isobel Spence.
